Who we Are

The Nurses Climate Challenge is an effort of the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments. We are the first national campaign aiming to leverage the unique and trusted voice of nurses to motivate the health care sector to action. We see the climate crisis as an existential threat to public health and see the healthcare field as uniquely poised to fight for change.

Our Goals

Our mission begins by mobilizing nurses across the country to educate their colleagues about the impacts of climate change on human health. Nurses are an invaluable public resource, and they possess an exceptional opportunity to push for climate action. We want every nurse to feel empowered to advocate for the steps that must be taken to ensure environmental public health. Out of this empowerment, we will build a national network of informed and engaged health professionals, particularly in care settings; support from peers in the nursing community is necessary to ensure the actualization of our goals. Through these efforts, we will launch a movement of health professionals committed to climate solutions in care settings and in the community. We will build up on the mobilization of climate champions in nursing, and further upon the network of health care professionals we are building.

Everything you Need to get Started

Nurse Climate Champions receive access to a free, comprehensive set of easy-to-use resources that make educating their colleagues on climate and health simple. Nurse Climate Champions across the country use these materials to host small or large educational events (e.g. at a staff meeting or in a nursing course). Together, as more nurses sign up and host events, we grow closer and closer to our goals of mobilizing nurses across the country, building a national network, and launching a healthcare movement of climate-ready health professionals.
